Explore The Hidden Spices of Menoreh is a project that targeted to inhabitant of Menoreh. It aimed to introduce to spices farmers that tourism can be used as a tool to market their commodities to broader market. The projects also used to show to inhabitant how tourism also should managed sustainable. It purposes to maximize the benefit of economic, social, and environmental aspects. Java Nira engaged local youth community to organize a sustainable small trip themed exploration of the local commodities. The community learnt to arrange a sustainable trip. They also learnt how to develop the story telling of their local products through tourism, so that tourists are able to maximize their experience.
About The Destination
Menoreh, a place full of natural treasures. Important commodities such as Cacao, coffee and spices flourish across the land of Menoreh since decades ago. This hilly area located in the west part of Jogja was indeed blessed with so many exquisite features.
Sukomoyo is a village peacefully laying in this area and yield all of its richness. Since the colonial era, Sukomoyo was known for its commodities. Spices are among them. As in another part of the world affected by spice trade, this village also facing the same ups and down. As the time passed by, most of the plants considered as inauspicious were abandoned, stories forgotten and its glory faded.
